Students unhappy with off-campus housing policies and maintenance

Now, even more space to study

Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne plans to dedicate two new apartment-style residence halls June 21 on the Waterfield Campus Student Housing on Crescent Avenue.

Construction on the $10.5 million project should be complete by June 15, a little more than a year after it began, said John Sheets, IPFW’s project construction manager. Furniture should be moved in during the end of June and the beginning of July, in time for students arriving this fall.

The project will add 188 beds and 68 apartments to the Waterfield Campus.

The Waterfield Campus opened in fall 2004 with 568 beds at a cost of $25 million. The occupancy rate in the first year was 90 percent, and it was 100 percent in 2005 with a waiting list, according to IPFW. The university sold bonds to pay for the project, and those bonds will be paid off by students’ rent. more...

Conservatory dean will take his show on the road

[University of Missouri - Kansas City] ... Construction of an 80,000-square-foot, $40 million first phase of that expansion is expected to begin in the spring of 2009 and be completed by the fall of 2011.

Half of the first-phase financing will be raised through private donations, Pembrook said recently. The other $20 million will come from land leases with developers chosen to build and operate new student housing, retail space and a hotel as part of the initial three-year expansion. more...
