Fall migration begins at WSU

Record number of students living in dorms this year at Wichita State University.   

Dormitories and parking lots were bustling with activity Sunday as hundreds of students began the annual migration to campus that signals the start of the fall semester at Wichita State University.

....The maximum number of students who can live in campus housing is 1,120. This year, 1,088 students signed up to live on campus. WSU officials feared if the numbers climbed much higher, arrangements would have to be made for some students to live at Newman University or in a motel. more...

KU moving day gets H.O.T. for incoming freshman

Lawrence — With a predicted heat index of 107, the KU Department of Student Housing was trying to keep students out of the sun Sunday. So they allowed all incoming students to move into their dorms an hour and a half earlier than the usual 8 a.m. opening.

“With the heat index that was predicted for today, and these incredible temps, we just felt for the safety of the students and their families we wanted to get them in as early as possible, let them have a choice of being in before the mid-day heat hits,” said Director of Housing Diana Roberts.

MSU students blitz dorms on move-in day

STARKVILLE - It must be the unwritten rule of moving into dorms - it can only happen on one of the hottest days of the year.

“But actually it's not that bad today,” said Mississippi State University Student Housing Director Ann Bailey. “There's a breeze.”

As the mercury climbed to 100 Saturday, some 3,000 students, along with parents, siblings and friends hauled flat-screen TVs, Playstations, bedding, laptops and dozens of other college student must-haves through parking lots, lobbies and up elevators to MSU's dorm rooms.

“We've actually already moved in, but we just made a trip to Wal-Mart,” said Suzanne Paschal, of Louisville, who was helping her son Chaney Paschal, an incoming freshman, move into one of MSU's newest residence halls, Building 3 - it has no name yet - as they lugged a case of bottled water and other supplies across the parking lot. more...
