Q&A Interview Featuring:

Giny Knudsen, Executive Vice President of Construction Enterprises, Inc.

1. How long has CEI been a player in the student housing industry?

We did our first student housing project in 1991 and have since completed almost $400 million in student housing contracts alone.

2. What amenities are trending in student housing construction right now?

With resort swimming pools, lazy rivers, tanning beds, golf simulators, flat screen TV’s – it appears that the sky’s the limit.

3. How many different markets has CEI built student housing?

We have built student housing projects in 9 different states, from Virginia on the east coast to Arizona in the west.

4. Cottages or Apartments?

Apartments – both garden style and urban, mid-rise.  To date we have not had the opportunity to build one of the cottage projects.

5. What would you say sets CEI apart from other General Contractors within this industry?

CEI continually strives to embrace the complicated, fast-paced world of today’s construction systems and the possibilities presented through modern technology.  At the same time, we value the hard-gained experience from years of specializing in the multi-family segment.   As a result, we have developed a rock solid core of experience and time-tested systems that gives the consistency and accuracy that owners today appreciate.

6. What is your favorite thing about working for CEI?

It’s a true family atmosphere, and we genuinely take pride in what we do.  I think that shows in the fact that clients just keep coming back.  They know our record for delivery and quality – and in student housing, there is no room for error!

7. Favorite university campus?

I’m an Auburn Grad, so that is my #1 choice.

8. Seeing that you are based in Tennessee did you really think the Titans had a chance at signing Peyton Manning?

As far as I’m concerned, it’s Peyton’s loss.

9. What is your favorite sport?

I do love football – don’t play it, just love the sport.

10. Steak or chicken?

I’m in construction …. Steak!
